Buying handmade rugs is not the choice of a consumer product, but rather the exposure of time, human skill, culture, experience and individual creativity. However, a significant portion of rug purchases, even at high price levels, end with discontent, doubt or regret. The root of this issue often lies not in the quality of the rug, but in the way of the buyer’s eyes, where the price takes the place of “value perception.”

This article is written for hand-made rug lovers, who are not experts, but do not want to buy unknowingly. The first and most important stage in buying carpets starts before seeing any rugs.

Know the buyer before buying.

The Iranian rug market guides the dead mind easily, and it is not necessarily in the interest of the buyer. So before each attempt, asking questions about such a situation makes the buyer more aware of the purchase. Questions like:

  • Is the rug for daily consumption or is it worth keeping?
  • Does traditional role and expression be considered or different?
  • A priority with personal taste or a set position?
  • How flexible is the budget range?

After we knew what we wanted to go to the market.

Review of carpet in the market.

In the first encounter, the buyer must consciously distance from asking for the name and price of the rugs. Early focus should be on itself. For example:

  • Role and composition: Is it consistent?
  • Colours: Natural (not in terms of gender, but in terms of harmony and harmony) and are balanced or exaggerated and dramatic?

A valuable rug does not require an immediate explanation. If the effect does not create a connection without a vendor narrative, the brand name will not guarantee its durability.

You should also touch and check the carpet. So the hand-made rug should be seen, touched, and examined with patience.

Even an unprofessional buyer can pay attention to the following points:

  • And the size of the nodes.
  • And the color of the back and forth.
  • Natural payments of Perezs and lack of transparency and exaggerated gloss
  • Total balance of texture.

Many hidden problems, including undeclared repairs or malicious thumbs,

At this point they are recognizable if the buyer does not rush.

Ask the seller.

Questioning is neither mistrust nor disrespect; it is part of conscious shopping.

Key questions include:

  • location and time frame of texture.
  • Type of raw materials.
  • A history of restoration or recovery.
  • Type of thumb and thumb.
  • The stability and quality of color and type of paints are natural or chemical.

The seller’s responsibilities are important in the event of a contradiction to the undergraduate opinion. A professional salesman of transparency does not fail; general and ambiguous responses are usually a sign of the weakness of information. What matters is the trackable narrative and accountability of a reliable vendor.

Check the authenticity of the carpet and the certificate of the effect.

After these steps, knowing the signature, name and certificate of the effect can be explored. In the hand-made carpet, the signature is more than the document. Many of the original historical carpets are undersigned and, in contrast, the low-value works are supplied with prefrontal signatures.

Also, the brand, designer and workshop are often not properly separated. At this stage, for a more reliable purchase, the certification examination of its effect and validation helps the buyer a lot. Of course, it is important that certificates are not always valid unless the information is extracted by a valid reference and expert.

Price, the last buyer question.

Price can be the last question. Price should be the result of understanding value, not replacing it. Cheap rugs are not necessarily worthless, and carpets are not necessarily a privileged effect. Here, a real experience of the market makes it clearer. An experience of the world of production and sales as the producer of certain carpets and often a copy, in one of Tehran’s exhibitions, I faced a position that was informative to me.

One rug, with a unique design and outstanding material, was considered by mother and girl. At the time, I did the price based on the market’s norm, without having to properly stand behind the real value of the job. The girl’s reaction was simple: “This is cheap.” They went, not because of the weakness of the effect, but because the low price was regarded as worthless in their minds.

Years later, the same level of work, with more accurate recognition and price-fitting to be unique, was sold at a much higher number. The effect did not change; the look had changed. This experience shows that in the art market and hand-made rug, the low price is sometimes not an opportunity, but also an agent of mistrust.

The last word.

In the end, we should note that we do not forget the role of an independent bachelor in buying carpets. Independent expert opinions are an inevitable step. But this fact should not be an excuse for the buyer’s ignorance. Knowing this path makes time for an expert, forming the right questions and reducing the risk of error.

The hand-made rug market is a complex and narrative-oriented market. A conscious purchase in this market starts with the preparation of the mind, with intelligent observation, question and reviews, and with understanding of value, not price, comes to the final decision.

Insisting on immediate shopping, scareing “losing opportunities” or conditional discounts in a hurry is not a sign of the quality of the effect. The precious carpet will be valuable tomorrow. A review and research is an important buyer tool. Finally, it can be said that understanding of value is the responsibility of the buyer; and this understanding is the most important capital in buying handmade rugs.
