Handwoven; A narrative of the future of persian rug in the hands of the new generation
persian rug, although rooted in the past, are always shaped in the present; in the choice of the generation that must decide how to continue this ancient heritage. Each generation gives meaning to the rug once again; sometimes by continuing the path of their predecessors, and sometimes by raising new questions about what should be preserved and what should be changed. Today, this responsibility falls on the shoulders of a generation that stands in the middle of a fast-paced, changing world full of new possibilities
For many young people, the handmwoven rug first entered their lives through memories; from narratives in which the persian rug was understood as a family and cultural identity. But today, this same generation is also faced with more complex realities; a world in which the persian rug must find its place again; both in contemporary homes, in global markets, and in the minds of a generation that sees the future differently
The future of the persian rug is not built solely by repeating the past. This heritage survives when it can communicate with the needs, perspectives, and ways of life of today. The new generation stands at this point; between authenticity and innovation, between the experience of the past and the language of the contemporary world. Young people, some of whom have combined design with technology, some who are thinking about responsible production and creating original works, some who are rebuilding the carpet market, and some who are trying to reconcile today's homes with the identity of the persian rug. These efforts are a sign that the persian rug is still alive; not as a relic of the past, but as a possibility for building the future
In the fifth issue of Handwoven, titled “A Narrative of the Future of persian rug in the Hands of the New Generation,” we turn to the narrative of this generation; a generation that wants to find its share in continuing this path. We read about the lived experience of young people who have redefined rug; we talk about universities and the path of education of the new generation. We also return to the words and thoughts of those who, years ago, were searching for the future of persian rug in the next generations
This narrative is about a generation that wants to find a new balance between taking root and becoming new. A generation that, if given the opportunity to experience, learn, and be seen, can take persian rug into the future with a new look. A future that comes to life in the hands of the new generation
